LONDON 〓 “Decca” contracts with Klaus Mäkelä, contract with conductor for the first time in about 40 years

The prestigious classical label “Decca” has announced that it has signed an exclusive contract with young Finnish conductor Klaus Mäkelä. The contract with the conductor is the first in about 40 years since it was signed with Riccardo Chailly in 1978.

Mäkelä is now 25 years old. He has been the principal conductor of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra in Norway since the 2020/2021 season, and will be the music director of the Orchestre de Paris from the 2022/2023 season after Daniel Harding. The first recording will be a Sibelius program with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra.
