The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra announced on the 1st that Yannick Nézet-Séguin will be the conductor of the New Year’s Concert to be held on New Year’s Day in 2026. Nézet-Séguin will be making his first appearance at the New Year’s Concert.
Neset-Seguin is 49 years old and was born in Montreal, Canada. After serving as Music Director of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra (2008-2018), he became the 8th Music Director of the Philadelphia Orchestra from the 2012/2013 season, and from the 2018/2019 season he has been Music Director of the Metropolitan Opera in the United States.
He first conducted the Vienna Philharmonic at the Salzburg Mozart Week in 2010. Since then, he has conducted the orchestra regularly, and in 2023 he will conduct the Summer Night Concert at Schönbrunn Palace.
