Piotr Beczala was decided on behalf of Lohengrin which Roberto Alagna had dropped off. “Lohengrin” was the only premier of this year’s Bayreuth Festival, Alagna singing the leading role of Wagner for the first time and attracting the topic by debuting at the Festival. Beczala canceled the recital at Granada and decided to debut at Bayreuth Festival.
Beczala was 51 years old in 1966, born in Czechowice-Dziedzice in southern Poland. After working as a member of the Linz Opera in Austria, a member of the Zurich Opera in Switzerland, he started international activities starting with Royal Opera in London in 2004. Since then he has repeatedly appearances in prominent opera houses.
Beczala sang Lohengrin for the first time in 2016 (the performance of the Saxon State Opera in Dresden under the Conducted by Christian Thielemann), Bayreuth will be the second time.
