Around the Music Festival

The Austrian Music Theater Preis (Österreichischer Musiktheaterpreis) award ceremony for this year took place at the Volksoper in Vienna on September 1. This year’s Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Harald Serafin, a great veteran of the operetta world, baritone singer, and general director of the Merbisch Festival from 1993 to 2012.

The awards were established in 2013 and are given for outstanding performances of opera, operetta, musicals, and ballet in Austria. A 10-member jury of music journalists and broadcasters in charge of the arts selects the winners, and in 2025, a total of 14 categories were selected and eight special awards were given. The main winners are listed below.

　Best Musical Direction：Maxime Pascal…Greek Passion…Salzburg Festival
　Grand Jury Prize（formerly Special Media Prize）：Asmik Grigorian（Soprano）
　Orchestra：ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra
