The Bayreuth Festival in Germany has announced its 2023 program. According to the announcement, the new production for 2023 is “Parsifal. In addition to “Parsifal,” the 2023 festival will present “The Ring of the Nibelung,” “Tristan and Isolde,” “Tannhäuser” and “The Flying Dutchman.
Opening the festival is the new production of “Parsifal”. The production will be directed by Jay Scheib and conducted by Spain’s Pablo Heras-Casado, both making their Festival debuts. Joseph Calleja will make his role debut singing Parsifal, Ekaterina Semenchuk will play Kundry, and Georg Zeppenfeld will play Gurnemanz.
Another festival debutant is Natalie Stutzman, who will conduct “Tannhäuser. This is the second female conductor to make her debut at the festival, following Oksana Linif last year.
Meanwhile, Pietari Inkinen, who was scheduled to conduct “Ring of the Nibelung” this year but had to leave the program due to infection with a new strain of coronavirus, will make his return to the program.
