2020/01/14

Conductor Christian Thielemann said in an interview that he was exploring the creation of a new music festival in Dresden during Easter. What was revealed in an interview with the German news portal site “TAG24”. According to his initiative, the music festival started in 2023, centered on the Staatskapelle Dresden(Saxony State Opera Orchestra) where he is the principal conductor.

Thielemann performed at the Salzburg Easter Festival in 2012 with Staatskapelle Dresden. Performed every year since then. Currently he has been an artistic director and supported the festival.

However, the festival had decided to invite Nikolaus Bachler to general director from 2022, and Thielemann is in conflict with him over running the festival. The contract between the festival and the orchestra expires in 2022. The festival was decided to have different conductors and orchestras appear every year from 2023.
