TOKYO 〓 Nippon Music Foundation loaned “Feuermann” to Camille Thomas

2019/09/28

The Nippon Music Foundation announced that it had loaned its own Stradivarius 1730 cello “Feuermann” to cellist Camille Thomas. Thomas was born in 1988 in Paris. She studied at the Conservatoire de Paris, Hanns Eisler Academy of Music and University of Music Franz Liszt Weimar. In 2014, she won the European Broadcasting Union Competition and Nominated as Newcomer of the year 2014 by the French-Grammys ‘Les Victoires de la Musique’. She has an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon.

The loaned “Feuermann” was purchased in 1934 by global cellist Emanuel Feuermann (1902-1942). Feuermann used it for many concerts and recordings, hence the name of this cello. After his death in 1942, it was acquired by the American collector. It was then sold in 1956 to the distinguished cellist Aldo Parisot (1918-2018) and purchased by Nippon Music Foundation in 1996. The Foundation lent it to Steven Isserlis and others. Among the master craftsman Antonio Stradivari, there are about 50 existing cellos.
