Vladimir Ashkenazy Appointed Conductor Laureate of Sydney Symphony Orchestra. It is the first time that the Sydney Symphony Orchestra gives the title of the Conductor of Connor. Ashkenazy first co-starred with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in 1969 as a pianist. From 2009 to 2013 he served as the principal conductor of the orchestra, the art advisor.
In 2006 he was working on an orchestra and all Rachmaninoff program, and from mid-2010 to 2011 he performed a Mahler symphonies cycle and recorded it. In 2016 he began working on Beethoven’s symphonies and concerto, in 2017 Shostakovich Tribute Concert series. From 2019 when 50 years since the first co-starring, it will take three years to do “Vladimir Ashkenazy’s Masterworks”.
Founded in 1932 by the Australian Broadcasting, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra began full-fledged activities in 1947 after welcoming Eugène Goossens to the Chief Conductor. In 1971, Willem van Otterloo became the principal conductor and grew rapidly. In 1975, Orchestra moved to the opera house, which became a landmark in Sydney, and continues to act as the top orchestra in Australia.
