Teatro di San Carlo in Naples has announced that it will welcome Israeli conductor Dan Ettinger as the next music director. The successor to Juraj Valcuha, who has been in charge since 2016.
Ettinger is 50 years old born in Holon near Tel Aviv, Israel. He learned the piano from an early age, studied at the Therma Yerin School of the Arts and the Rubin Conservatory, and won the Francois Shapira Concours as a baritone singer.
After that, he became a chorus conductor and Répétiteur of the New Israel Opera at the same time as a singer, and then became a permanent conductor of the opera.
After becoming a conductor, he became Principal Guest Conductor of the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra in 2002. He was an assistant to Daniel Barenboim at the Berlin State Opera from 2003 to 2008.
While serving as music director of the Israeli Symphony Orchestra from 2005 to 2018, he has served as Music Director of the Manheim State Opera (2009-2016) and Permanent Conductor of the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra (2010-2015).
He is currently the Principal Conductor of the Stuttgarter Philharmonic Orchestra and Music Director of the Israeli Opera.
