The concert scheduled to be held on the 11th by the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Herbert Blomstedt has been canceled.
Before the concert was due to begin, the fire alarm in the venue, the Hercules Hall, went off. However, the hall and orchestra staff were unable to determine whether it was a false alarm or not, and so they had no choice but to cancel the concert for safety reasons.
Bromstedt had also conducted the previous day on the 10th, and the same program was performed again on this day: Stravinsky’s “Symphony of Psalms” and Mendelssohn’s 2nd Symphony “Lobgesang”.
According to reports from the scene, the venue was inspected by the relevant personnel after the alarm was raised, but there was no fire or smoke, and the alarm system did not stop ringing even after being reset several times.
There was an electrician who was called in when a fault occurred in the hall in the past, but after that person retired, the position was not filled due to cost-cutting.
