TOKYO 〓 New National Theater Tokyo extends contract with opera artistic director Kazushi Ono

The New National Theater Tokyo has extended its contract with Kazushi Ono, Artistic director of the Opera.

The extension is four years, and Ono’s term will be extended by the end of the 2025/2026 season. He became the Artistic director of the Opera at the New National Theater Tokyo from the 2018/2019 season.

Ono is 60 this year. He has conducted numerous orchestras in Japan and overseas.

In the past, he has been music director of the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra in Croatia, general music director of the Baden State Opera in Germany, music director of the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Belgium, and chief conductor of the Opéra national de Lyon in France.

He is also the music director of the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra(-2023) and the Barcelona Symphony and Catalonia National Orchestra (-2022).
