VIENNA 〓 Composer John Williams will conduct the Vienna Philharmonic

A concert scheduled by composer John Williams, known for numerous film musics, to conduct the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. The concert will take place on January 18 and 19, 2020 at the “Großer Musikvereinssaal”, the home of the Vienna Philharmonic. Violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter will be co-starring. Williams was scheduled to conduct the Vienna Philharmonic on November 3 and 4, last year, but was sick and the concert was canceled.

Williams was born in New York and is 87 years old. He studied under the exiled Italian composer Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco at the University of California, Los Angeles, but was recruited to belong to the Air Force Music Company. In 1955, after serving in military service, he entered the The Juilliard School, where he studied piano from a famous teacher Rosina Lhévinne. After that, after working as a jazz pianist, he focused on composing activities.

As a composer, he composed four Olympic theme, and a series of director Steven Spielberg’s works such as the “ET” and “Indiana Jones” series, as well as the “Star Wars” and “Harry Potter” series. He has been working on hit music, and has won five Academy Awards (four times for composition and one for arrangement). Also He has been a conductor, including 14 seasons as director of the Boston Pops Orchestra at the Tanglewood Music Festival in the United States, but this is his first time conducting the Vienna Philharmonic.
