The board of directors of Teatro alla Scala in Milan, chaired by the mayor, has announced that the next president will be Fortunato Ortombina, who is also president of Teatro La Fenice in Venice. La Scala will have its first Italian president in 20 years.

He succeeds Dominique Meyer, who has been in the position since 2020 and whose term will expire at the end of February next year. From 2001 to 2003, he was artistic director at the Teatro La Fenice. He was then Artistic Director Coordinator at Teatro alla Scala from 2003 to 2007, returning to Teatro La Fenice in 2007 to serve as President.
