Andrés Orozco-Estrada has resigned as Chief Conductor of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. His agent announced this, according to which it was due to ‘long-standing and insurmountable differences with the orchestra’s artistic director’.
His tenure as chief conductor began in the 2021/2022 season. He succeeds Philippe Jordan, who has moved on to become Music Director of the Vienna State Opera. Only six months have passed since his appointment.
Orozco-Estrada was born in 1977 in Medellín, Colombia’s second largest city, and is 44 years old. He studied at the Vienna State University of Music and Drama.
He subsequently served as chief conductor of the Wiener Tonkünstlerorchester (2009 – 2015) and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra (2014 – 2021). He has also been music director of the Houston Symphony Orchestra since 2015.
