MOSCOW 〓 Tchaikovsky International Competition is different from the past

A Jury chairman of each division of the Tchaikovsky International Competition was announced. It is rippling that Martin Engstroem, the founder of the Swiss Verbier Music Festival and serving as general director, will become the chairman of the violin division. President Putin, close to the conductor Valery Gergiev who is the chairman of the organizing committee, it is unusual for a non-musician to be appointed chairman. In addition, Ms. Olga Gorogetsu (56), who is deputy prime minister since May 2012, will be appointed chairman of the organizing committee along with Gergiev. The chairpersons of each department are as follows.

 Piano division:Dennis Matzoev(Russian pianist,1st prize in the 11th Competition in 1998)
 Violin division:Martin Engstrom(Founder and General director of the Verbier Music Festival)
 Cello division:Clive Gillinson(Cellist, Art director of Carnegie Hall)
 Vocal division:Sarah Billinghurst(Former Deputy General manager of the Metropolitan Opera)
 Woodwind division=New:Denis Bouriakov(Los Angeles Philharmonic Principal Flute player)
 Brass division=New:Ian Bousfield(Former Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra Principal Trombone player)

Tchaikovsky International Competition was founded in 1958. It is held in Moscow, it is one of the world’s most prestigious competitions which occupies a part of the world’s three major competitions, alongside Elisabeth Queen International Music Competition and Chopin International Piano Competition. Basically it is held once every four years, and the 16th in 2019 will be held from June 17th to June 29th.
