LONDON 〓 Vasily Petrenko will become Music Director of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra

A Russian conductor named Vasily Petrenko will be appointed the music director of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) in London from the 2021/2022 season. In the post of the director of music, in January this year, Charles Dutoit who concurrently served as artistic director from 2009 resigned as a sexual harassment issue and it is vacant. Petrenko was 42 years old born in 1976, Leningrad (now St. Petersburg). Currently he is the principal conductor of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra (2004 -) and the Principal Conductor of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra (2013 -). Retired from the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra in 2020, the Royal Liverpool Phil resigned in 2020/21 season and will be appointed as Orchestra’s Conductor Laureate.
