Slovak violinist Dalibor Karvay was appointed as the new first concert master of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. Successor to Jan Pospichal, who retired in October.
Karvay was 34 years old born in Vltuki, Slovakia. After studying at the Zilina Conservatory, he studied with Boris Kuschnir at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. He has won awards including the 2003 Tibor Varga Sion International Violin Competition and the 2008 David Oistrakh International Violin Competition.
In 2003, he was invited to Prince Charles’ concert at Windsor Castle, where he co-starred with cello artist Mstislav Rostropovich. Participated in the Swiss International Academy, a music class created by Seiji Ozawa. He lives in Bratislava and is a professor at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna.
