The Monteverdi Chorus and Orchestra has announced that it will bring in Frenchman Christophe Rousset to conduct its winter tour. He replaces John Eliot Gardiner, founder and longtime leader and artistic director, who was dismissed late last month. Rousset will make his orchestral debut on tour.
Rousset is 63 years old and was born in Avignon, France. He started his career as a harpsichordist, winning the first prize at the “International Cembalo Competition in Bruges” in 1983. He also founded the ancient music ensemble “Les Talens Lyriques”, which focuses on the performance of baroque operas.
The winter tour in December will take the group to London, Milan, Frankfurt, Vienna, Dortmund, and Hamburg. Soloists include Hilary Cronin, Bethany Horak-Hallett, Florian Sievers, and Florian Stoltz.
