YAMAGATA 〓 Yamagata Symphony Orchestra will welcome Tetsuro Ban to the chef conductor

The Yamagata Symphony Orchestra will have a Chef conductor with Tetsuro Ban. The term of office is from April 2019.

Ban was born in Kyoto City in 1968. He studied at Kyoto City University of Arts, University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and won the 1995 “Besancon International Conductor Competition”.

Since then, he has worked mainly in Germany, including the conductor of Komische Oper Berlin, who has served as general music director at Ezenach and Regensburg Opera.

Ban had a connection that parents were from Yamagata Prefecture and served as Principal guest conductor from 2007 to 2009 at Yamagata Symphony Orchestra.

Norichika Iimori, who took office as a permanent conductor in 2004 and has served as a music director since 2007, said he will be responsible for a wider range of activities as a post of art director.
