Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra announced on 9th that from the 2019/2020 season, the principal conductor will have the American Conductor Karina Canellakis. Succeeded by Maukus Stanz (2012 -). Radio Philharmonic is an orchestra managed by the Dutch Broadcasting Foundation (NOS). Established in 1945, it has been ranked third in the orchestra of the Netherlands. Canellakis made debut at Radio Philharmonic 8 weeks ago, and the inauguration of the chief conductor was electrified. It is the first time for Radio Philharmonic to welcome female leaders as chief conductor.
Canellakis was born in New York and is 36 years old who grew up in New York. She started studying music as a violinist and studied at the Curtis Institute of Music, Juilliard Music Conservatory etc. After that, She changed to a conductor through a violinist such as Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Academy of Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. For two years from 2014, assistant director of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra (music director of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Jaap van Zweden turned from Concert Master of Concertgebou Orchestra to Conductor). In 2016 She won the “Georg Solti International Conducting Competition”. After that, She actively undertakes command activities.
