This year’s “Bach Medal” will be presented to Canadian pianist Angela Hewitt. This is the first time a female artist has won an award. The medal was established as part of the Leipzig Bach Festival, and is given by the city of Leipzig to musicians who have made achievements in the research and performance of the composer Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750). The award ceremony will be held at the music festival on June 20, 2020.

Hewitt is 62 years old born in Ottawa. After studying at the Toronto Conservatory, she studied at the University of Ottawa with French pianist Jean-Paul Sevilla. Since 2016, he has been playing the “Bach Odyssey” in 5 cities around the world. There will be 12 performances each in New York, London, Ottawa and Florence, including Tokyo.
