CHEMNITZ 〓 Guillermo Garcia Calvo extended contract with City Theater

Spanish conductor Guillermo Garcia Calvo extended contract with Chemnitz City Theater. The contract will extend the term until the end of the 2022/23 season. Calvo has been the general music director (GMD) since 2017/2018 season and the music director for the theater orchestra “Robert Schumann Philharmonic”. Chemnitz is a city in eastern Germany that was called “Karl Marx Stadt” in the former East German era.

Calvo is 41 years old born in Madrid. After studying at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, he worked as an assistant to Ivan Fischer at the Budapest Festival Orchestra and Christian Thielemann at the Bayreuth Festival. Since debuting as an opera conductor in 2003, he has expanded his career.
