The National Ballet of Canada announced on Tuesday that Maria Seletskaja, a ballerina-turned conductor, will be appointed a conductor in residence. The term is two years. The ballet company was established in 1951. One of the top dance companies in the world, based in Toronto. It has more than 50 dancers and own orchestra.
Seletskaja is 36 years old from Estonia. After graduating from the Ballet School in Tallinn, She studied at the Vaganova Ballet Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia and made her debut in 2003.
She was a soloist at the Estonian National Ballet, the Royal Flanders Ballet, the Berlin State Opera Ballet, and the Zurich Opera Ballet. For the past few years, She studied conducting at the Berklee College of Music in the United States and studied under Paavo Järvi.
