STOCKHOLM 〓 Nina Stemme has won the 2018 Birgit Nilsson Prize

Sweden’s Birgit Nilsson Foundation announced on January 15 that it will award 2018’s “Birgit Nilsson Award” to soprano singer Nina Stemme=RIGHT. Respect for the intent of the composer, the constant dedication to the dramatic soprano repertoire, and the success of Wagner · soprano representing the contemporary. The legendary Swedish dramatic soprano, Birgit Nilsson (1918 – 2005)=LEFT is awarded to the artists and organizations that have made remarkable achievements in the music world. The prize money is 1 million dollars, and it is the world best class as a music prize. The first of 2009 was awarded by tenor singer Plácido Domingo. The second in 2011 is the conductor Riccardo Muti, the third in 2014 was awarded by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.

Stemme was born in 1963 in the capital Stockholm. After studying piano and viola, she went on to the way to vocal music, but at the same time she also studied business administration and economics at the university. Later, she studied at music university aiming for professionalism. Currently active in the world famous OperaHouse. Among them, singing in Wagner works such as Brunhild of “Der Ring des Nibelungen”, Isolde of “Tristan und Isolde” is highly evaluated. The Prize Award Ceremony will take place in the presence of Their Majesties King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia on October 11, 2018 at the Royal Opera House in Stockholm.
