The Volksoper Wien has announced the performance lineup for its new 2022/2023 season. The Volksoper will start a new creative team in the new season. Dutch female director Lotte de Beer will take over as general director and Omer Meir Wellber as music director.

It was also announced that Ben Glasberg, Carlo Goldstein, and Alexander Joel will serve as principal guest conductors.

Glasberg won the 2017 Besançon International Conducting Competition in France, Goldstein won the 2009 International Conducting Competition in Graz, Austria, and Joel won the 1996 Spoleto Conducting Competition in Italy.

According to the announcement, the new season will open with Millöcker’s operetta “Dubarry”. Millöcker completed the work three years before “The Beggar Student,” and Jan Philipp Gloger will direct the production.

The performance will be conducted by Kai Tietje, with Annette Dasch singing the lead role of “Dubarry” and TV actor Harald Schmidt making his theater debut as Louis XV.

In addition to “Dubarry,” the new productions of operas include Weill’s “Die Dreigroschenoper,” Offenbach’s “Orpheus in the Underworld,” Nicolai’s “The Merry Wives of Windsor,” and Mozart’s “Die Entführung aus dem Serail.”
