The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra asked the former Principal flute player, Silvia Careddu, to perform. In January of this year when the trial period was over, Careddu departed without being officially adopted by a ballot member. However, she was willing to accept the request. The orchestra requested to perform at the BBC Proms on September 3 and the Lucerne Festival on the 6th. Both will be the last concert for Bernard Haitink, who has announced his retirement.
The Vienna Philharmonic Principal flute is auditioned in June and Luc Mangholz has already been chosen as the replacement for Careddu. Manholz is French and 24 years old. He is the principal player of the NDR Elp Philharmonic Orchestra based in Hamburg. He studied under Philippe Bernold in Paris and Andrea Lieberknecht in Munich. It was scheduled to arrive on September 1, but it was delayed, and the orchestra asked Careddu to substitute.
