The Salzburg Festival has announced the replacement of Maris Jansons, who died on December 1, last year. Jansons was to conduct opera “Boris Godunov” and a concert by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra on July 26 and 29 at this year’s festival. “Boris Godunov” will be featured by Tugan Sokhiev and the concert will be conducted by Franz Welser-Möst.

“Boris Godnov” is a new production directed by Christoph Roy, one of the highlights of the festival celebrating its 100th anniversary. Sohiev makes his festival debut. Meanwhile, the Vienna Philharmonic’s concerts include Richard Strauss’s Suite from the Opera “The knight of the Rose”, Frank Martin’s Sixth Monology of Jedermann for Baritone and Orchestra, and the Alpine Symphony. There is no change there.
