PHILADELPHIA 〓 Philadelphia Orchestra has announced its 2019-20 season

The Philadelphia Orchestra announced a performance lineup for 2019/2020 season. It is the eighth season for music director Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Nézet-Séguin is also a music director at the Metropolitan Opera this season. In addition to the topic of inviting six female conductors to the guest conductor, the work of 12 female composers was picked up, and the keyword “female” was gathered attention in the foreground.

The six conductors who will be appointed are Marin Alsop, Karina Canellakis, Jane Glover, Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, Susanna Malkki, Nathalie Stutzmann. On the other hand, the composer is the following members including Gabriela Lena Frank, who was selected as “Composer in Residence”. Lera Auerbach, Lili Boulanger, Anna Clyne, Zosha Di Castri, Louise Farrenc, Elena Firsova, Vivian Fung, Jessica Hunt, Betsy Jolas, Raminta Šerkšnytė, Valerie Coleman.

For Beethoven, whose 250th anniversary is birth, Nézet-Séguin intensively directs nine symphonies from March to April. Gil Shaham is appointed to the Violin Concerto. The five piano concertos are in charge of Yefim Bronfman, Daniil Trifonov and Emanuel Ax. In addition, the orchestra will perform a tour of China in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the US-China Relationship in May. In 1973, the Philadelphia Orchestra performed the first China tour as a US orchestra.
