CHICAGO 〓 Muti will leave Chicago Symphony?

Conductor Riccardo Muti has said that he intends to retire as the music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra when his term expires. Muti’s contract expires in the 2020/2021 season. The statement came out after the concert on the 9th. It was during the ceremony when Daniel Gingrich, who retired as the Principal horn player, was given the title of “Lifetime Honorary Principal Horn”.

Gingrich joined the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in 1975 after attending the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington from 1969 to 1972. From 2013 to 2019 he served as the Principal horn player under the nomination of Muti. According to officials, in a celebratory speech, Muti said “I wanted to thank you before it disappeared two years later.”
