WDR Rundfunkorchester Köln(The Cologne Broadcasting Orchestra ) announced that Wayne Marshall, a permanent conductor, will retire in 2020 after office. Marshall served as a permanent conductor since 2014/2015 season. The Cologne Broadcasting Orchestra is one of the orchestras belonging to the West German Broadcasting Corporation (WDR), founded in 1947. They are working on a wide range of repertoire from classical to popular. WDR has another one, WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln(Cologne WDR Symphony Orchestra), which specializes in serious programs.
Marshall was born in the UK in 1961. After graduating from the Royal College of Music in London he studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and is active as a multi-musician who performs to organ, piano, Conducting. In 1995 he was co-starring in the “Waldbühne” of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra led by Simon Rattle. The Performance is broadcasted all over the world by satellite and established immobile popularity. Since 2007 he was also a conductor of Milan’s Giuseppe Verdi Symphony Orchestra.
