MAPUTO 〓 Female oboe player named Minister of Culture and Tourism in Mozambique

Oboe player Eldevina Materula has been appointed Minister of Culture and Tourism in the Republic of Mozambique in southern Africa. Matera is a member of the orchestra attached to the concert hall “Caza da Musica” in Porto, the second city of Portugal. A general election was held in Mozambique last October, and President Philippe Nyusi has been re-elected, and the work of the government has begun in January.

Materula is a 37-year-old born in the capital Maputo. After graduating from the National Conservatoire in Maputo, she studied at the Evora Conservatoire in Portugal at the age of 13, and later studied in Sweden before joining the orchestra. She has been in the company for 10 years and is also the artistic director of the Xiquitsi Music Festival in Maputo.
