Sydney is shaking whether or not to display horse race advertisement in the opera house familiar as a city landmark. The Sydney Opera House was completed in 1973, the most famous building in the Southern Hemisphere. In 2007 it was registered as a World Heritage Site. Utilizing the feature that the roof seems like a sail of a yacht depending on the angle, it is used as a canvas as an art mapping, and advertisement projection is also done. But this time it was an advertisement of a horse race and an objection burst out. Some citizens and politicians raised protests as unwilling for cultural facilities to ruin the beautiful appearance, against the decision of the State of New South Wales government.
The problem is becoming an advertisement of “Racing New South Wales”. In order to advertise the “Everest Cup” which will be held on 13th October at “Royal Randwick Racecourse” near Sydney, the race trophies, the numbers and colors of the jockey are reflected. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to manage World Heritage sites commented that they are closely watching the move, and the Mayor of Clover Moore in Sydney also expressed opposition. The signing campaign calling for cancellation has come up on the Internet, exceeding 200,000 people.
