MOSCOW 〓 Teodor Currentzis gave Order of the Phoenix from the Greek government

On the 28th, the Order of the Phoenix was awarded to the conductor, Teodor Currentzis, who leads the orchestra “musicAeterna” created by himself. The ceremony took place at the Greek Embassy in Moscow.

Order of the Phoenix is ​​a medal established in 1926 in the 2nd Greek Republic era. It has been awarded not only to Greeks who have achieved outstanding achievements in art, literature, science, government, ship, commercial and industry, but also to foreigners who have enhanced Greek international prestige. There were five stages, Kurenzis skipped two stages and received the third “Order of the Phoenix”.

Kurenzis was 46 years old, born in Athens, the capital of Greece in 1972. After receiving local music education, he studied at the St. Petersburg Conservatory of Russia from 1994. Where he learned from the famous teacher Ilya Musin. After graduation he became an assistant to Yuri Temirkanov at the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra and gained experience as a conductor.

In 2004 he became the music director of the Novartibisk National Opera. Until retiring in 2010, he founded “musicAeterna” and became art director. Since 2011 he is the artistic director of the National Opera and Ballet Theater in Perm. From the 2018/2019 season, he will also serve as the chief conductor of SWR Sinfonieorchester.

“MusicAeterna” which was brought up in Novgoribisk was reorganized after joining members of Orchestra of the National Opera and Ballet of Perm on led by Kurenzis. In the summer, they got into the Salzburg Festival led by Kurenzis and attended a topic by doing the Beethoven Symphony cycle for five nights.
