VIENNA 〓 Omer Meir Wellber will be the next music director of Volksoper

Volksoper Wien has announced that Israeli conductor Omer Meir Wellber will be the next music director. The term is from the 2022/2023 season. From the 2022/2023 season, Volksoper will be appointed as general director by Dutch female director Lotte de Beer.

Wellber is 39 years old born in Beersheba, southern Israel. He is currently the Music Director of the Massimo Theater in Italy (2020-), the Principal Guest Conductor of the Saxony State Opera in Germany (2018-), and the Principal Conductor of the BBC Philharmonic in Manchester (2019-).
