The conductor Michael Sanderling was appointed as a substitute and decided to debut at Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. Sanderling was born in East Germany in East Berlin in 1967. His father is a famous conductor Kurt Sanderling (1912-2011), and his older brother Thomas and Stephan are also conductor. After studying cello at Hans Eisler music university, after graduation he worked as a cello soloist with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra (1988-1992), and later played with a number of orchestras as a free cellist. Started acting as a conductor from early 2000. Since 2011 he is the principal conductor of the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra. Sanderling (51) is the same generation as Gatti (56), some view that it will rise suddenly as a successor candidate.
