BERLIN 〓 Komische Oper Berlin has announced its programming for the 2018/2019 season

Komische Oper Berlin announced the lineup of the 2018/2019 season. The 2018/2019 season is the first season of Ainars Rubikis, a conductor from Latvia who took over as music director.

Rubikis was born in 1978, Riga, the capital of Latvia. He studied at the music academy of his home country, attracted attention by winning at the Gustav Mahler international conductor competition organized by German Bamberger Symphoniker, and after that he has been active at the European and American opera House.

He will conduct Shostakovich’s Opera”nose” on 16th June before the start of the season. It is a new Production, and the director is Barrie Kosky who is an intendant of the Komische Oper.

Premier of the 2018/2019 season (NewProduction) is the following 7 works. Korngold “The dead city”, Valtinoni “The Wizard of Oz”, Bernstein “Candide”, Puccini “La Bohème”, Handel “Poros”, Abraham “Viktoria und ihr Husar” and “Roxy und ihr Wunderteam”. In addition, the world premiere of Moritz Eggert “M – Eine Stadt suchtinin Mörder” born in 1965 will also be held. This is also directed by Kosky.

Also, a festival commemorating the 100th birthday of Leonard Bernstein is planned from November 23rd to 25th, and the “Tango Festival” will be held from March 1st to the 3rd of 2019. Also, “Komische Oper Festival” will be held from June 25 th to the 30 th at the end of the season, new productions will be performed together.
