The Malmö Symphony Orchestra based in Malmö, a southern city of Sweden, will welcome US conductor Robert Trevino for the next music director. He succeeded Marc Susutero who has been a music director since 2011, and he will be appointed from 2019/2020 season. The Malmö Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1925. Previously it was in the pit of the Malmo Opera House, but now their are based in Malmö Concert Hall and acts as a Symphony Orchestra. There are James De Priest, Pavo Jarvi, Vasily Sinaisky, etc. as the chief conductor of succession, and there are also many recordings at BIS and Naxos.
Trevino was born in the United States in 1983, 35 years old. He debuted as an associate conductor of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra at the age of 20 in 2003. Since then he was an associate conductor of New York City Opera, and in 2011 he Conducted “Tosca” at the Bolshoi Theater in Russia and gained international attention with a great success. In addition, this year’s Tanglewood Music Festival has been elected Ozawa Seiji Fellow Award. From 2017/2018 season he became chief conductor of Spain’s Basque National Orchestra (Orquesta Sinfónica de Euskadi). Last June, he renewed his contract and his term of office was extended to 2021/2022. It is said to be concurrently posted by the Malmö Symphony Orchestra.
