Angelina Jolie’s biopic “Maria,” which portrays the life of the famous singer of the century, Maria Callas, has been completed, and images of the film have been released. The film will have its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival in early September, and will be screened at the New York Film Festival starting on September 27.

Callas was born in New York City, the child of Greek immigrants. She took the opera world by storm in the 1950s and 1960s with her technique-backed singing, psychological portrayal, and acting, and although she died of a heart attack in Paris in September 1977 at the age of 53, her dramatic life continues to fascinate many people as “the greatest diva of the 20th century.

The film is set in the last week of her life. Directed by Chilean-born Pablo Larraín, this is the third biopic following “Jackie” and “Spencer,” the historical biopics about Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Princess Diana, respectively. The film co-stars Kodi Smit-McPhee, Alba Rohrwacher, Pierfrancesco Favino, and Valeria Golino.
