Musikfest Berlin, from August 31 to September 18, will dedicate its programming to the centenaries of Claude Debussy(1862 – 1918) and Bernd Alois Zimmermann(1918 – 1970). After the war, Zimmerman served as President of ISCM (International Contemporary Music Association) Germany, and served as a professor of composition department of Cologne Music University. However, in 1970, he committed suicide with his pistol as if his music was not understood by society.

The program includes the performance of such notable orchestras as the Boston Symphony Orchestra with Andris Nelsons; the Münchner Philharmoniker with Valery Gergiev; the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra with Daniele Gatti; or the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra with Yannick Nézet-Séguin, as well as local orchestras such as the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Orchestra of the Deutsche Oper in Berlin or the Konzerthausorchester in Berlin.
