TOKYO 〓 NHK Symphony extended contract with Paavo Järvi

NHK Symphony Orchestra extended contract with Principal conductor Paavo Järvi. The extension is one year, and the term of office extends to August 2022. Since 2015/2016, he has been the first Principal conductor of the NHK Symphony Orchestra. From this October, he started his activities as Principal conductor and music director of the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra.

The NHK Symphony Orchestra is an orchestra affiliated with the Nippon Hoso kyokai(Japan Broadcasting Corporation), a public broadcaster in Japan. They are Known as Japan’s top orchestra. The predecessor is a “New symphony orchestra” established in 1926 as Japan’s first professional orchestra. They started anew in 1951 as the NHK Symphony Orchestra supported by the NHK.
