The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, has announced its performance lineup for the 2024/2025 season. Klaus Mäkelä has been the orchestra’s artistic partner since the 2022/2023 season, prior to his appointment as chief conductor.
In the new season, the most high-profile event will be a major U.S. tour with Mäkelä. Mäkelä is the leading candidate for the next music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the success or failure of this tour is expected to have a major impact on the choice of music director. Plans for the new season include a Bruckner symphony cycle, whose bicentennial year is 2024, as well as three concerts on the theme of Schoenberg, whose 150th birthday is in 2024.
The lineup of guest conductors is also as usual magnificent. Jaap van Zweden, Vladimir Jurowski, Ivan Fischer, Paavo Järvi, Santtu-Matias Rouvali, Leonardo Garcia Alarcón, Semyon Bychkov, Riccardo Chailly, Antonio Pappano, and Andrew Manze, François-Xavier Roth will be in attendance.
In addition, Karina Canellakis, Han-Na Chang, Lu Yu (=俞潞), Riccardo Minasi, Vasily Petrenko, and Simone Young make their orchestral debuts in the new season.
