SAN FRANCISCO 〓 Michael Tilson Thomas Succeeds in Surgery to Remove Brain Tumor

American conductor Michael Tilson Thomas has announced that he has had surgery to remove a brain tumor.

According to the announcement, the surgery performed at the UCSF Medical Center in San Francisco was successful and he will return to the scene in November.

Thomas was born in Los Angeles and is 76 years old. He was the Music Director of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra (1971-1979) and the Principal Conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra (1987-1995). He was the music director of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra for 25 years from 1995.

He also founded the New World Symphony Orchestra in Florida in 1987 with the aim of developing young musicians and is still a music director.
