Kioi Hall Chamber Orchestra Tokyo has announced that it will welcome Trevor Pinnock of the United Kingdom as the next principal conductor. He will replace Rainer Honeck as the third Principal Conductor. His term is three years from the 2022 season.
Pinnock is 74 years old, born in Canterbury. While he has been a member of the Canterbury Cathedral chant since he was a boy, he learned piano and organ. He then went on to study the harpsichord and organ at the Royal College of Music (RCM) in London.
He established the ensemble “English Concert” with original instruments in 1973, and is active in both conducting and solo. He also established his fame by making numerous recordings. He has been a freelance performer since he left the “English Concert” in 2003 and took over the music director to violinist Andrew Manze.
He made his debut in the Kioi Hall Chamber Orchestra in October 2004 when the orchestra was Kioi Symphonietta Tokyo. Since then, he has performed five times so far. He will now appear on the podium twice a year as principal conductor.
