MUNICH 〓 Simon Rattle will become Principal Conductor of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra

The London Symphony Orchestra announced on the 11th that it has extended its contract with music director Simon Rattle. Rattle has been a music director since 2017, and his contract extension will extend his term to 2023.

Meanwhile, the Munich-based Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra also announced on the 11th that it will welcome Rattle as chief conductor. According to the orchestra, the contract took place on the 3rd. His term is five years from the 2023/2024 season.

The chief conductor of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra has been vacant since Mariss Jansons died suddenly in 2019. The London Symphony Orchestra has also announced that Rattle will become an Conductor Emeritus for life after retiring as a music director.
