VIENNA 〓 State Opera announces postponement of “The Marriage of Figaro” and “Carmen”

The Vienna State Opera has announced the postponement of the performances of “The Marriage of Figaro” and “Carmen”.

According to the announcement, Anita Rachvelishvili, who was appointed to the title role of “Carmen”, a choir member who appears in “The Marriage of Figaro”, tested positive for the new coronavirus.

Both were planned to be performed without an audience. “The Marriage of Figaro” was scheduled to be streamed live on February 1st, with the famous production of Jean-Pierre Ponnelle.

On the other hand, “Carmen” is a new work by Calixto Bieito, which was scheduled to be performed on the 7th and live streamed. On February 1st, “The Marriage of Figaro” will be replaced by “Der Rosenkavalier”.
