The Leipzig Gewandhausorchester decided to appoint Korean-born Kim Sarah to Viola’s principal player. Kim was born in Korea in 1988. She moved to Russia with her parents at the age of seven, and graduated from Gnessin State Musical College in Moscow. From 2006 she studied at Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin and since 2013 she is the principal player of the Braunschweig State Theater Orchestra in Germany. She has also participated in the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra from 2016, and in Gewandhaus Orchestra, she has been invited as a guest and has served as the principal player in the past.
