The Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich has announced that soprano Anja Harteros will withdraw from Wagner’s “Parsifal” and Puccini’s “Tosca”. Harteros will be taking a hiatus in 2024 to focus on caring for her family.
Harteros was born in 1972 in Bergknostadt, Germany, and is 51 years old. She grew up in a family with a Greek father and a German mother. After studying at the University of Music and Performing Arts Cologne, she joined the ensemble of the City Theatre of Bonn, and gained attention when she became the first German to win the BBC Cardiff International Vocal Competition in 1999.
Since then, she has appeared in many performances and recordings with a focus on the European activities, but she has maintained an attitude of not forcing herself to sing, and is known as a singer with many cancellations. In 2007 she was awarded the title of “Court Singer” by the State of Bavaria, and in 2018 she was awarded the ” Bavarian Order of Merit”.
