Manuel Legris, who has been artistic director of the Vienna State Opera Ballet since 2010, has been appointed artistic director of the Teatro alla Scala Ballet. He replaced Frédéric Olivieri, artistic director since 2002.
The leaders of the Teatro alla Scala will be completely replaced this year in 2020. Alexander Pereira will be replaced by Dominique Meyer, who retires from the intendant of the Vienna State Opera, and Legris will follow suit.
Legris was born in Paris in 1964. He entered the ballet school attached to the opera in 1976, when he was 11 years old.
After the performance of the Ballet Company in New York in 1986, he was appointed Etoile without being the first dancer (Premier d’Ansour) by artistic director Rudolf Nureyev.
After serving at Etoile for 23 years, he has assumed his current position.
