2023/02/26

The Opéra National de Paris will undertake repair work on the façade of the Palais Garnier; the €7.2 million work is scheduled to begin next April and be completed by the end of 2024, and performances will continue as usual during the construction.

The restoration work will focus on extensive cleaning of the walls, gilding, carvings, latticework, and pillars, as well as restoration of the gutters and downspouts. The roof of the Palais, which also contains beehives for honey, the Palais’s specialty, will also be maintained, and pigeons will also be treated.

The Palais Garnier is one of the theaters of the Opéra National de Paris, along with the Opéra Bastille, and was built in the late 19th century as part of a large-scale urban renovation project ordered by Napoleon III. Designed by Charles Garnier, it has become a landmark of the 9th arrondissement of Paris, lined with department stores and specialty stores.
