During a performance by the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano at Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw on November 2, three climate change activists shouted slogans and were forcibly removed from the hall.
Summarizing reports from the site, the activists shouted at the Dutch government, which allows the use of fossil fuels, “We are in the middle of a climate crisis, like the orchestra of the Titanic, which continues to play quietly even though the ship has already sunk.
The Orchestra is on tour in Europe and was performing the Verdi Requiem, conducted by Claus Peter Flor and featuring singers Carmela Remigio, Anna Bonitatibus, Carlo Alemanno, and Fabrizio Beggi.
The performance was briefly interrupted, but resumed after the activists were escorted out. When the performance ended, the audience gave a standing ovation, which lasted for seven minutes. After Amsterdam, the orchestra will perform in Barcelona and Madrid.
